Fuctard's joke answer: I learned the world was all screwed up, and the Brits and Frenchies were getting their asses handed to them, so 'ol Freedom Flags decided to go rescue their sorry European butts from the big, bad Deutsch. Fuctard's real answer: It was largely believed to be the last war. Ever. U.S. joined in the last few years of a very long war, and made an impact, but not like World War II. The reasoning for going to war was largely bull, and Wilson's input was largely ignored at Versailles. On a side note: THe harshness of the Treaty of Versailles is largely regarded as a direct cause of WWII. I wonder if that treaty would have been a tad less harsh if they'd have listened to him? Hmmmmm....
