  • They know just how flimsy they are.
  • They see the possibility the groceries are too heavy that tear the bags?. Some people walk home they might need double bags.
  • Who knows. That's why I bring my cloth bags now, I was drowning in plastic!
  • When I was in highschool I had a (brief) grocery store bagger career. LOL. Actually corporate heads mandated the limits as to how many items..or what sized items could go into bags. Thankfully I don't remember what those limits were!It seemed so wasteful!
  • Because they don't teach bagging anymore. I can understand using more bags for elderly shoppers who can't lift much, but other than that the baggers need to pack the bag safely but fully. A plastic grocery store bag can safely hold up to seven pounds.
  • lol. I have no idea. Its better than the bag breaking, which i've had happen, not fun
  • because they get yelled at if the bags break and people bananas get bruised or if old folks complain that the bags are too heavy. Just get the green solution bags that you reused and tell the bagger to fill them all the way up. Works for me and saves the planet.
  • Thst's the first time I've seen this. Most retailers these days want the bags packed full, others tell you how many items have to go into each bag as part of loss prevention. I worked for a retailer that gave bonuses and the cost of bags actually affected the bonus because it came out of store profits, cashiers were encouraged not to "waste" bags. Kind of a double edged sword because if the plastic bags broke the customers would come back and yell at the cashier. I alwsys double bagged the heavy things and would double bag for those I knew were walking or asked that their purchases be put into a double bag.
