I don't generally watch Eastender's, it'd drive anyone to suicide. But from what I have seen, I'm glad she's gone. She moaned so much! Though I imagine Soap Lover's will be quite upset.

I have to admit it, i cried when she died, only becuase of martin though. I dont think it will be the same with out her though, she tended to be there for people whether they wanted her or not, and she always had a thing to say about people, good or bad. without her it will be different because shes always been a big person in the square, she was 1 of 2 of the original casts from the first episode. now theres ian...

No one star is bigger than the whole show, although soaps generally prefer to keep their original members. The only original member left now is Adam Woodyatt who plays Ian Beale. However if a character wants to leave they can do little to stop them. A death is a dramatic way to exit someone from a soap and is often considered. There have been so many changes to Eastenders in years gone past that I doubt this one would really make that much difference.

It will be what is has always been, a fictional story which existed in the mind of the scriptwriter before coming to take the form of acting. If it will be different without Pauline, it will be because there is emotional attachment to this character. Given that the scriptwriters will want to draw as much audience as possible, they will create another character for us to become "attached" to. This attachment to the story and the characters is what the scriptwriter plays on to draw the audience. I myself am amazed that one Christmas a fictional story where Den decided to divorce Angie on Christmas Day drew 20million (one third of the population of the uk) in front of the box !

Her departure may give an opportunity to introduce a character a bit more light-hearted. How on earth Miss Brahms ended up as such a miserable, manipulative old bat as Pauline Fowler is beyond me. Eastenders needs more humour in my opinion.

In many ways and over the soaps course she was the center of the soap. Here in the US i catch EastEnders on my local PBS station and the episodes being shown are from March 2007 so she only recently died here.
