I have part of the circulating water running through 500 metres of coiled black PVC water pipe laid on my roof. It adds about 4° C to the pool temperature, which is only 1° less than a friend of mine gets from a €1,000 commercial system.

I suppose you could paint the bottom of your pool black and add lots of salt, or you could buy a solar water heating panel for your roof.
