  • Experts will tell you no, but I've done it many, many, many, times and it's held up fine for years. Keep the underlying layer the same or less gloss than those overtop, don't put a flat over a gloss. If you're trying to cover red, you might need many coats. Primer is better and cheaper than paint, so I hope you're only asking 'cause that's what you have. If you're going to buy, get the primer. Good Luck.
  • You can, but it is not recommended. IT does not have the proper binders and adhesive agents to use as a primer. Sadly enough, people think they can, but this will always result in failure, Finish paints are not made to adhere to raw surfaces. They are meant to interact with primers or other finish coats. To apply to an unfinished surface may result in product failure.
