Help answer this question below.

'91 miata started making "airy" "sucking" sound...loses power. sometimes returns to normal. getting worse w/white smoke at idle. High mi car w/ recent oil stop leak additive put in oil. any ideas?

    The sound you describe, and the fact that it is intermittent, suggest a sticking egr valve. When this valve sticks it basically creates a big vacuum leak. White smoke, however, is indicative of a problem with water getting into the cylinders, such as a blown head gasket or cracked head. A compression test and coolant system pressure test would help diagnose this problem.
