Unfortunately, the way the men process fat is that it tends to get deposited around the gut and chest. This is partly why men have a higher incidence of heart attacks than women, where often the fat is distributed around the thighs, buttocks, and breasts (ironically, the areas men often find attractive). Fat loss cannot be targeted to a particular area, so you can do any many crunches as you want, you canot simply remove fat in a specific area. Furthermore, crucnhes, and other abs exercises tone the underlying muscles, so you do have a six (or eight) pack, it's just hidden under the fat. Toning the muscle is good, so that you have better core stability and will enable you to run more efficiently and for longer, and when the fat does go the muscles will be more visible as they will be larger. In order to lose fat, you need to carry on doing your running or other cardio exercise and maintain each time for more than about twenty minutes to enable your body to begin to process fat for energy rather than carbohydrates. Running is excellent, just make sure you have good shoes or try and run on softer surfaces such as grass to reduce the shock placed on your joints. Also, running on uneven ground makes you work your abs to maintain balance so burn even more calories and get an abs workout at the same time. Whilst at rest however, you still consume calories for basic processes, and muscles need constant energy sources. Hence why a 70kg man needs more food than a 70kg woman, his muscle mass will probably be higher than hers. So doing weights to build muscles increases your physique, and helps you to burn more at rest. To get the best benefit, you should do compound exercises that work many muscles at once, such as squats and bench presses. Obviously start at a nice comfortable weight and build up. Make sure you have a good source of protein in your diet, and don't skimp on the carbs either, they are essential. It sounds like you just need to keep doing what you are doing, but maybe do some weights to prevent going skinny. Remember muslce weighs more than fat, so if you put weight on this doesn't mean your are going wrong, it may be that your body is becoming leaner and fitter. Running is good, but make sure you have rest days. Rowing is also excellent as you use almost all your muscles as wel as doing serious cardio.

Loosing fat around the abdomen is one of the hardest places to loose fat. You are already on the right track by eating healthy and running. When burning fat u can't just target one area you have to train ur body as a whole. Target training is usually not a good technique because u will be greatly disapointed. Keep up what ur doing but if ur doing a half hr of cardio try to increase ur time to and hr or a hr and a half. When weight training do cycles one day do ur hour cardio and arms then the next day do cardio legs and abs ect if u keep trainging ur whole body u will see it all transform. Don't be discourage keep up the good work and ur efforts will be rewarded. Rember the key is to balance out cardio and wieghts: cheers Oh Joh
