What's a good wine. I like White Zinfandel, but am told that it really isn't considered a wine... I would like to try something different, but not too pricey.

My favorite kind of wine is a good syrah. I've grown especially fond of Insatiable Sirrah. That's a GREAT bottle of wine for $11.

The question is why do you want a good wine? 1) to drink with nothing to eat 2) to drink with a special kind of food; question what do you like to eat & wish to have a good wine with? With that food you wish a contrast or underline the food or the wine? If you like Zifandel you would have better choose a sweet wine for a first new experiment. A day of hot weather, Zifandel out of the fridge with juicy tomatoes cut into dices, olive oil, cheese with character & rye bread is not a bad choice.
