Why is a full moon often shown in horror movies, does it scare you?

It probably has something to do with the werewolf legends. They were supposed "come out" on full moons. Wolves are often heard howling in these movies. Actually, wolves don't howl at the moon. It is for communication. They will howl after a kill to bring other pack members, or simply to locate other members. I love full moons. I usually get out my telescope.

It doesn't scare me. However, the full moon has fascinated and even influenced mankind for as long as it's been there, so it's no surprise that it be used in many horror films to achieve an ominous atmosphere with a sense of foreboding. As well, the full moon is attributed to plenty of dark myths and legends, that is to the beliefs of people in the older days about the moon, so it's like butter on toast, so to speak. I think it's creepier without a full moon though...makes everything more authentic, since we only see a full moon once a month, if that.
