  • The answer to if the kitten is feeding is in the size of his tummy after you have seen him nurse. They eat until their belly is distended. So if you were to turn over the kitten and look he should have a little pot belly slightly in front of his rear legs. Nursing isn't just squeezing the nipples so she may have milk that you can't express. If you are convinced the kitten isn't feeding you can get KMR (kitten milk replacer) at the pet store and supplement it's feeding. Chances are it is eating but better safe than sorry.
  • An infant of any kind pulls on the nipples in a way that you can't duplicate. The action of nursing causes the mother to "let down" which she most likely won't do for you. If the kittens are pooping and peeing regularly, they are fine. Unfortunately, you won't know that unless you watch the mother after the kittens nurse, as she consumes their urine and feces until they are old enough to climb out of the nest. But if you watch her, you'll see her turn each kitten over and lick their belly until they go, and she'll eat or drink it. As long as they are going, they are getting enough.
