Answers.com and Yahoo answers both have Firefox add-ons. Do you think Answerbag.com should develop a Firefox add-on?

I don't know how "add-ons" work, but I have used Firefox in the office (instead of Internet Explorer) and I must say it was really helpful because it would tell you that you have misspelled a word.

  I use a few different add-ons, they really make the difference for me with Firefox. I guess, each add on is different, so, its not easy to say what they do, but, really, its not easy to say what they cant do either, from what Ive seen. Thanks for the answer.

The idea certainly sounds interesting. Specially since I use Firefox.
How do those add-ons work for those other websites, what is their function?

  I am not a member of either of those sites, so I cant really say.
  Im sure the first advantage would be the toolbar button, where it goes from there, the sky is the limit, I suppose. Of course, the exposure to new users is also there...

- The extensions available for yahoo answers and answers.com are pretty lame in my opinion. They are nothing more than variations on the "dict" extension. They both allow you to highlight text and then search either yahoo answers or answers.com for Qs and answers related to the text.
  
  A much more useful extension would tell you when Questions were answered, when you had responses to comments, when someone had sent you a message, asked to friend you, etc.

A firefox extension for AB would be a neat addition. It would be nice to be warned when I have an answer or comment waiting to be addressed just like my email extensions tell me I have new mail.

- Add-ons are the general encompassing term for themes, extensions, and plugins that can be added to Firefox. Themes are just that, skins that change the look of Firefox. Plugins are usually things you don't install but are installed by other programs. For example, Flash, Java, and your AntiVirus may have installed plugins into Firefox to allow you to view Flash and Java content, to check to see if links are safe, etc.
  Extensions refer to the user installed items that extend the functionality of the Firefox browser. This is where the yahoo answers, answers.com, and AB (if they had one) items would fall.

Certainly. I am a Firefox fan. Out of necessity. Not out of choice.
My son installed only Linux and Firefox in the PC and taught me the basics of using them. He thought Firefox will serve by purposes best. Its very user friendly, I will say.
Now if AB will give Firefox add-ons illiterate people like me, who are at a loss of comprehension when it comes MS Internet Explorer, will be the ones to benefit most.
Let us hope AB will give it a thought.

- Firefox add-ons are called extensions usually and change or add to the functionality of the web browser. Some will tell you when you have mail, some help you download youtube videos and save them to your computer, some give you a quick shortcut to define a word, get directions to an address on the internet, etc.
