At least killing for food has a purpose (all life will end at some point), but killing for fun is obscene IMHO. Where is the fun in killing anyway? Neither is morally superior, but i think food at least has a purpose.

if you have to kill for food, well, that's one thing. but if you are killing for the game well... bench yourself because killing just to have an animal's head in your trophy room isn't right.

I am not sure where you are from, but in America we don't have to kill for food. Killing for fun is cruel, and to us it is like killing a human, so we can laugh about it. A coward kills for fun.

Killing for fun is immoral and wrong in my book. Sadly, hunting is misunderstood by a great deal of the non hunting public. The main reason for hunting is to control the population fo a particular species. I have seen deer starve during the winter, so weak that they can't get up and run from me. The problem is that deer don't know when to move on and seek a new food source thereby overtaxing the carrying capacity of the land. Carrying capacity refers to the number of animals that can live in a particular area. Hunting is an important facet of the overall Conservation program. By thinning the herd, you are actually helping the others to survive. The old and weak are taken out of the food chain so the others can survive. Most responsible hunters know what to look for before harvesting an animal so they do not leave any youngsters without a food source. For instance, a fawn is dependent on it's Mother only until it looses it's spots. At that point it can survive on it's own. Still, I personally wouldn't take a Doe that had a fawn anywhere near it. A side benefit is that the meat is incredibly healthy for you and the hide can be used for many things. Most times I never take an animal. it's just a blessing to be outdoors and observe different birds and plants that are there. I've always seen something I've never seen before.

I have trouble with the idea of something being "moral" or "immoral". Seems to me these concepts are judgments and they depend on the personality of the individual. I believe that "morality" doesn't come into the question of hunting, only personal preference. You don't have to like it or you may like it. Up to you. Not up to me whether you go hunting. Up to me whether I go hunting. As for morality, I feel it is a much overrated concept. Nobody can agree on what is moral or immoral. Picking vegetables from growing in the soil could be considered "destroying" the life of the vegetable. Taking fish from the sea, particularly when there seems to be enjoyment in playing with the fish who is struggling to get away...could be considered cruel. Your moral compass may be different from mine. There is no consistency in morals.
