There are many techniques to teach parrots to talk, one way is just to repeat a word over and over again, another way is the same except putting a blanket over its cage so there is less distraction, and third using a CD or tape while your gone. There are probably some other ways to. Do you know if its a male or female? Budgies are actually excellent talkers, but they tend to be hard to understand because of their budgie accent! good luck!

Talk to it all the time, so it gets used to the sound of your voice. If there is a particular word you want it to mimic then say this word over and over again all day long, every day until the budgie finally says it. By this time, you will be so sick of this word - you may never want to hear it again. I don't know how to teach budgies not to say things.

Keep talking to the budgie. I have heard that playing a repeated word or phrase to them at night when they are covered and in the dark - kind of like sleep teaching - helps. My grandfather used to whistle a particular tune and our budgies all sang back to him. My mother kept a canary and a budgie next to each other and the budgie learned to sing in canary. Is that kind of like a foreign language for a budgie? Anyway keep on talking to your budgie they are good mimics.

its hard and takes a long time. the best thing to do is get up every morning take the blanket off there cage and say goodmorning. in the afternoon put them in front of a window and say how are you. at night before you put the blanket on say good night. when you feed them say I love you. when you water them say your pretty.
