  • Many dogs will eat just about anything. The blood, uterine tissue, and unfertilized egg that make their way out of a woman each month (and end up on a tampon or pad) can be mighty appealing to some dogs. After all, it is mostly protein. That doesn't mean you should let your dog continue with this behavior - A dog could easily choke on a menstrual pad or a tampon. Try wrapping your used items up tightly in toilet paper, place them in a sealed bag of some sort to keep the dog from smelling them, and take the bag out to trash can as soon as you can.
  • This is very normal. You also have to keep soiled underwear out of reach of household doggies - I've lost quite a few pair to my own pooch! :)
  • My old dog used to do that. I guess its because they're carnivorious animals and they like the smell of the blood. I used to use a wastebasket with a sealable lid, but I abandoned that idea because the wastebasket would smell TERRIBLE when I opened it. Just make sure you keep the bathroom door closed so they can't get in the garbage can, that's what I do now.
  • No. Normal would be for you to place these items up out of his reach once he showed you his fondness for them. Ick.
  • My mom's dog did it, my dog didn't. I wonder if it's a male dog thing.
  • I don't know, but what I do know is that young dogs and older dogs sure like little kids underwear!!! LMAO!!
  • my dog used to do it pretty much EVERY month!! Like almost every last tampon! Even though I disciplined her for tearing up the trash (separation anxiety) she would continue the next month! Gross, I know. She is a 45 lb. lab retriever and never had any ill consequences from this disgusting behavior. ..Other than getting laughed at when my friends and I saw her rubbing her butt on the lawn trying to get the rest of it out the next day!! LOL
  • I have a small dog, shih tzu poodle X, 12 lbs; and she went into the garbage and ate my sons girlfriends tampons!!! Eww!! Can they actually get sick from this?? I get sick thinking about it...(gag)
  • Can't you flush them down the toilet? IEW!!!!
  • EEEEWWWWWWW!!!! Yes it's normal. It's blood. nything disgusting = your dog will want it. Please do all involved a favor and dispose of this things properly.
  • Do you just keep them out in the open?
  • Uh, why were they around for your dog t'get ahold of 'em? Christmas decorations, or somethin'?
  • what a bitch :))
  • Yes they eat them and throw them up its digusting. To them its a snack. You have to keep the bathroom door closed or use a garbage can with a lid so they cant get at them. And they will try, but everyone has the same problem. My Great Dane was sitting in the middle of the living room. I could tell something was in his mouth. I went over and looked he had a string hanging out of his mouth. I pulled it and ..... You guessed it. Its totally normal part of living with pets.
  • Yep! Keep 'em out of the reach of the dogs! Dogs do that because such scents let them know their owners! Those things smell like their owners!
  • NOrmal is disposing of them where the dog can't get at them
  • I don't think it's normal to leave them were they can get them. Some people put their trash bin in a kitchen closet or under the sink.
  • don't have a dog, so didn't know. but it sounds pretty gross!! ewh~
  • They chew on them because it's bloody and tastes good to them. Just put them somewhere that they can't get to. Maybe a trashcan with a lid or something.
  • Can't you just flush them down the toilet?
  • Its very common for dogs to do this...not a good habit but very common. Just like eating the crotch of your underwear if they get the chance...i hate that! Anyway since you cant just flush them down the toilet- when its that time-put a small plastic bag in your bathroom waste can and pull it frequently to reduce the desire for them to pillage! or just keep your bathroom door closed.
  • Yes its normal for a male dog to do it. You are in heat to them and they want it. Plus they are carnivores and it has blood. Females will do it to for the latter reason. Keep your trash locked in another room and it wont be a problem. I have three dogs and I have an attached garage and ALL garbage goes in there. I also do plumbing and PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH THEM!!! They aren't fun to remove from your sewer lines!
  • No. The chemicals they put on these might harm your dog. Kepp them in your bag or in a high place, because your dog will get sick.
  • Only if you let him.
