Freud would say it's an oral fixation due to lack of breastfeeding. If a person were to loose their fingers, they'd need to find something else to chew or take up smoking or lollipops or something. My mother would say it's a filthy habit, you stop that now! Good luck!
-
yes, it became a habitude...i hate it!!!
-
I tend to bite my nails whenever I'm bored (during class...obviously), nervous (meeting new people) or hungry (which is all the time). People are usually like "EW!" but I'm just like "MMM.." lol ;-)
-
i used to for like three yrs. i stopped like 4 yrs ago in 6 grade. i m glad that i dont anymore it was aweful
-
Just a bad habit i guess, when they start to get a tad long i just chew them.
-
yes anxiety
-
Yes, and I don't know why anymore...probably just out of habit now. I doubt there even was a good reason to begin with, or even a bad reason.
-
I chomp em, just a habit.
-
Yes, I do. I don't want to, I don't like that I do, but it's a nervous habit, and I do it.

I have always been a compulsive nail-biter. As a kid, my mother nagged me mercilessly, and I thought something was seriously wrong with me. In my 20s, I saw a shrink who convinced me I am normal, just hard-wired to eat my nails like 10% of the adult male population. It is many years later and I still bite my fingernails to the nubs, but am not ashamed to do it, even in public. Incidentally, I am a happily married, well-paid professional. I hope others who cannot stop the habit learn that they should not feel guilty or ashamed about it.
-
Yes. Not as much as when I was young. Just a nervous habit.
-
Boredom, habit. But also to keep myself well groomed =O Don't need nail clippers -.-
-
yes bad, the only time i don't have the urge is when i sleep or eat xanax
-
I don't sister!
-
I don't bite them..but they are soft and I have to deal with breakage all the time. My sister has nails that are, well, "tough as nails" and she always had long, sturdy, beautifully polished nails. I used to try to hide my hands I was so embarrassed. Happy Friday Thebyann! :)
-
because they keep growing back.
-
A nervous habit. I did it more when I was younger, not much now.
-
I dont bite my nails:)
-
That's not quite how it works. I just do.
-
because of the way it hurts, its enough to keep you focussed without crippling you to badly
-
Habit. I don't even realize i am biting it till someone pulls my fingers out of my mouth.
-
I only do it to keep them shorter.
-
No thats goes through me...
-
I do bite my fingernails very badly expecially when I am nervous..
-
Most people bite their fingernails because of daily life stress and tension .... Of course, others will bite their nails because they are just too darn lazy to take time to properly care for them ...
-
I do it because I like it!
-
I don't ! I have long fingernails :)
-
I believe the real question is, How do I stop?
-
Just a bad habbit ive had since childhood
-
Because they are getting on my nerves
