The county tax roll is usually the first place to start. Also, I always look at the toilet and if it appears to be original I look at the date molded into the inside of the lid on the tank. People dont change toilets often, so you can tell if the date is close to the era of the house.

You can also go to your county assessor and ask for the property card. It should give a date of original construction.

The most accurate way to find out when a house was built is to check out the date the permit was issued to build the home. If the home was built with the required permits, the county or city Building And Safety offices will have records of the permits. This will tell you when the permit was taken out and, more importantly, if it was "finaled". Finaled means that the home had a "final" inspection and the permit was signed off by a county or city inspector as being done. This usually results in getting a "Green Tag" or "Occupancy Permit". Fancy words for letting you know that you can now occupy the home.
As a side; not all homes and especially additions have been built with permits. In fact many are not in every town or city. This means that the person who did the addition did not take out the necessary permits and get permission to build the structure. This does not mean that the structure is not built to code, but it is usually an effort to avoid new tax assesments and tax increases. However, many of these structures are NOT built to code and can be hazardous. I recommend that, if you are purchasing a home or building, look into the permit history and get an inspection by a licensed home inspector who has a contractors license as well. They can inspect the structure for possible code violations. Money well spent on a property that costs in upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Usually these inspections cost a few hundreds to do and is usually based on the size of the structure.

I live in Columbus, Ohio, at 605 Carpenter Street. My home is a cute 1 and half story building. I would like to find out the age and to find out if there are any pictures of this house any where.
