  • often affirmative action can extend beyond what it was truly meant for. for example i have two friends who applied to colorado college who looked exactly the same on paper except that one was puerto rican. We all grew up together, upper middle class lifestyles, all together very similar upbringings. my 'puerto rican' friend (he's 25%) got accepted, while my white friend was turned down. it goes too far too often
  • On a 'sensitivity' poster at a past job. When dealing with the disabled do not refer to the able-bodied as able-bodied or normal, refer to them as 'nondisabled'. Is that even a word? Another good one: Polio is inappropriate, must say 'post-Polio syndrome' instead (WTF?) Now you're supposed to call the handicapped disabled when previously you were supposed to use handicapped in place of crippled. MAKE UP YOUR MIND PEOPLE! I do not go out of my way to offend anyone but this constant changing of words irritates me since it is nothing but simple semantics. As a wheel-chair bound friend of mine once put it: 'Change the words all you want, call me crippled for all I care, my legs still won't work.'
