Why do some Americans who have never travelled to other countries feel that America is the best country in the world?

im not saying that we are the best country in the world. but i do like my country even with all its flaws. im sure i would love other places too. i think i would probably like australia or somewhere tropical anyday over the US. but this is my home, so im always going to come back here. lol

America is huge and has many different features and aspects. Maybe, if I lived there, I wouldn't feel the need to travel abroad so much because there would be so much travelling to do in my own country.

Lack of a suitable reference point. Personally, I thought we were one of the worst countries until I went abroad and realized things aren't so bad here.

Most Americans are dillusional and are very ignorant towards other cultures...mainly because they don't care. They are raised from birth to think America is the greatest country in the world...trust me...I live here.

I don't think it is just Americans. I think most people have a loyalty and love of their homeland. I know a number of foreign people who constantly talk about their countries and how great they are, the food, the weather, etc. and how we don't have anything comparable. So, I think it is normal.

I have traveled and LIVED abroad, Europe, Asia & parts of Africa and I can tell you, from what I've seen, we are a great nation. We have laws that protect civil rights,government money for those who may need it through SSI,Disability, Mediciade,Welfare and many other income needs. Our legal system, although flawed, is better then almost all others. That goes for jails too. We can sleep soundly at night that a gang of thugs wouldn't burn our towns down or our children don't need to travel miles & hide to escape enslavement. Our government hasn't been toppled in over 200 years, the military knows it's place. Sure, we have problems. But when you have actually been to other countries, you realize what REAL trouble can bring. I'm glad I'm a citizen of the USA, with all it's flaws, because it's still a better place to live despite even the worst of times.
