Because you don't want to put the foot on which the toe you stubbed is on the ground, so you raise it up, then you have to catch your balance, so you hop around on the other foot. ;-)

i dont have that problem. i generally destroy the object i stubbed my toe on so i wont do it later.

Because It is painful and there is much else you can do. I learned this the hard way. I broke my little toe. and did a really good dance.
