  • What kind of artist? I would think that any supplies to help them create the art that they do would be great.
  • I would say something to inspire them to create more art. Perhaps a book of photos, like a coffee table book on a subject that interests them :)
  • How about something like this http://www.inthepaper.co.uk/default.aspx?gclid=CLv4qOam5pYCFQaB1QodcRtjOQ headlining in the music section and get it framed:)
  • a gift certificate to an art supply store.
  • mix cds for inspiration. paint brushes. water colors. Paper. Gift certificate to the right store. A wonderful bottle of wine.
  • some really nice quality tube paints, and a pallet and a few brushes.............:)
  • Since everyone else has suggested supplies, I'm going to suggest frames, or framing supplies, or a gift certificate to have their work framed.
  • Find out what sort of art she likes (Surreal, impressionist) and find a book of paintings from one of the artists of that movement. For one of my birthdays, my mom gave me a book of paintings by Remedios Varo, and those were a great inspiration to me.
  • a good book on the type of art they like
  • maybe some art instruction books? On Perspective, Drawing plants, animals, humans, rocks...? Sketch pads are always appreciated, as are canvasses.
  • I am an inspired artist at this question.Pencils paper andthing artsy, i recomend a art case
  • instructional art books, to help her hone her craftsmanship. an easel. pastel crayons. art kits are always nice.
  • Possibly a sketch pad If they like to color their drawings, color pencils are a must Find out their drawing preference, then try to find a "How To Draw" book for it Thats about all I can think about except for compliments, those are always great gifts!
  • If the budding artist is your kid, give her gallery space. Since the refrigerator is only so big, paint a wall in a hallway with magnetic paint (and then put the original color back on top of it) throw up a few plain magnets and let her post any of her creations there.
  • Some colorful paint, and maybe minature canvases and easels, they're tiny and cute. Or Prismacolor colored pencils. They are top of the line and work great. :)
  • This depends on the age of the artist. Budding artists usually begin with pencil, prismacolors(which are quite expensive), charcoal, pastels, and ink. Drawing acid free paper is good. A small easel. A set of acrylic paints or oils. A box to carry supplies. Small canvases. Artist paint brushes(a small set). Art books to read to get inspired. That is my list and I am a beginning artist.
  • The best gift you can give them is to impress upon them how hard it is to actually earn a living in raw art. Make sure they know their only hope is graphic design, layout, etc.
  • most important gift of all...encouragement. if you are the mother, then make a portfolio of childhood art work and put it in a folder. a gift certificate to a coffee shop is perfect (even if the artist doesn't drink coffee, s/he can sip on something else and just be in the environment)... oh, and the ever popular, a gift card to an art supply store.
  • Sketch pads of all sizes. A small pack case to carry on bus or car rides would be nice to give. My brother is a glass artist and if he is not sketching he is sleeping. A book on a master(s) in their field of art would also be very coveted.
  • Oh gosh, a pastel set, conte crayons, a sketchbook...you could give lots of things.
  • A sketch book and charcoal pencils A gift certificate to an art store An easel Nice oil pastels A professional natural hair brush set A chinese brush painting set
  • their favorite medium is always in short supply.
  • i know i'm partial to basic art supplies since i'm basically broke ;) lol!
  • Derwent water colour pencils............ must have!!!
  • A set of decent paintbrushes. Good brushes are expensive.
  • sketchbook and a good set of pencils, nothing inspires me more than a fresh sketchbook and a newly sharped 2B pencil
  • An architects drawing board, it's large (3'x4'), supports itself with room underneath for your legs, it adjusts to any height or angle and the surface is extremely resistant to stains. Mine is 20 years old and has a few scars to prove it.
