I wrote a ten page paper on the death penalty....for my sister!! As a single mom she had three kids, a full-time job, and full-time school, so I helped her out that once....she got an A+ btw.

The college I went to didn't usually set length for essays. They figured that you wrote until you felt you had said what you needed to say and then stopped. The longest one I WROTE was about 10,000 - 15,000 words.

I had to write a 15 page essay on...I forgot. It was like the difference between cultures between two countries or something like that. If I remember right, I waited until the night before it was due to write it.

A 55 page report for ethics class on "Dungoens and Dragons" its effects on personality types... I passed :)

I tend to write a lot, one of my Economics professors instituted a "no minimum or maximum length policy" for essays and I decided to punish her for that and wrote several 30 page essays. It was summer and I had nothing better to do. The longest I wrote was my final in a glorified political science class, it was ~50 pages, give or take. It was a good one.
