I work with 6 attorneys and we use math all of the time. Billing is measured by attorneys in 6 minute increments (.1 of an hour) and has to be scrupulously tracked. Attorneys review financial records for various reasons and have to be able to recognized errors, overpayments, underpayments. Attorneys have to be able to calculate actual and potential losses of their clients making any kind of personal injury claims. Attorneys also need to know how to calculate their personal taxes, including amortization of their office space (if they own the building), current values of all assets, etc. They also need to know how to assess values in divorce settlements and breach of contract cases. They need to know their state's formula for determining child support payments. These are just a few of the ways math is used daily by attorneys.
