A friend of mine in Florida has one, I would say yes.

Well I only have a STANDARD schnauzer but he;s only a puppy....but we know people who have one too and they've got a beautiful tempermate, and they're a good "people dog" So I'd say yes :)

Absolutely. You can't go wrong with any Schnauzer. They are intelligent and they have good aptitude for training. They're pretty fearless. They also have a high resistance against weather and illness. They make great family pets. Their temperament is very even keeled. They're good with children, and they don't latch on to just one person in the family. Also, they don't shed. Well not in the tradional sense. I would consider any Schnauzer, or Westie to be the ultimate family pet.

If he is well breed and you can handle his personality; then I think he would make an outstanding pet.

Well I have a standard schnauzer and they've got a good tempermate so yeah I'd say so. Correction: I HAD one up until a year ago. They're gorgeous. I miss him so much :'(

After 2 years of dog show research, internet sites and talking with owners of the Giants. We chose a female born in Dec of 07. She is a gem...We are so glad we did our research because most people were insisting we get a small dog. I am so glad we chose this breed. Giants love children (they think they're pups), they tolerate exisiting pets and they are PEOPLE MAGNETS. Fur color is an issue. Black does not do well in the heat like the salt/pepper coats. They LOVE water, they have an undercoat but that can be handled by shearing them quite short during the summer months. Female will always like the males a bit better than the females...but in the end they just love you to pieces. Quite "mouthy" as a puppy, but that is natural..but get it under control as a puppy so it won't be a problem with the LARGER mouth. DO IT !!

YES I have been looking for the type of dog myself that would be naturally protective, strong, yet good with other dogs( smaller ) and very smart that would be great with family and kids a trainer recommended their # 1 pick as a Giant Schnauzer, it's believed part of their great personality comes from the Great Dane's demeanor. Here is more info on them. They need someone who can handle them and their size, obedience training is a must as these are VERY big dogs. They have been successfully trained as police dogs, and shutzhund work as well. They have a unique ability to not be big barkers, yet they can kind of " talk to you " as some dogs do, this is a very smart, expressive dog. http://www.akc.org/breeds/giant_schnauzer/ http://www.giantschnauzerclubofamerica.com/
