  • Most employers might think that they won't last long on the job.
  • I would imagine it definitely could be. Unfortunately like sexism and racism, ageism exists in our country.
  • I'd have to say yes. I have heard my dad tell me stories about business owners he know's saying things like, "That guy won't last long" "We need someone who's younger" and my father in-law was laid off from a job bc he was "too old" (52). So yes.
  • I have to agree. My husband was laid off last friday and is 60. The crazy thing is employers want the experience but are not prepared to hire someone who has all of that. They would rather higher a much younger person without experience and they can pay them much less.
  • Oh hell yes!! I have 20 years in production, warehouse, manufacturing and loads of heavy equipment experience. But I'm 49 and dang I am not getting call one as they want the young people they can financially screw over now due to Oblabba screwing the economy up!! The employers KNOW I want what I'm worth due to experience. But they won't hire me. Fine, I'm living easy and cheap (I have upwards of $450 monthly left after bills) and so I'm just relaxing till the end of 2010 or early 2011 and then look for work.
  • It is. Employers find it hard to want to invest the time and training, etc, into someone who is going to retire in 5-15 years. While most people don't stay in a job for 15 years these days, employers still have convinced themselves if they hire someone who is 30, they will stay there for years... Plus, older people are seen as costing more in benefits, etc. All of which is silly.
