No, there is alot more information that we know of today, which means there is more to remember. Humans only use 1/3 of his or her brain.

Sadly, yes. We produce children that not only are not reaching education standards we reached just a generation ago, but we are telling them they are smart and great and so forth, when they really need to be told they aren't cutting it to spare them the incredible crash when they hit the brick wall of reality that the outside world will give them. We are codling these kids and really doing them no favors by not teaching them consequences for their behaviors and holding them to a high standard.
