no it is not as affordable as electricity from coal or nuclear, and it is not as reliable or practical
-
we can afford it right now, it could replace our power bills. Great question!!!

The company Nanosolar looks like they have it going on. They've drastically reduced the production costs of solar cells, dropping the price per watt to below that of coal. I'd say it's just a matter of time.

It is affordable now. It is a matter of what time frame you are looking at. If you are just going to use it for a year, then coal is much cheaper. If you are going to use it for 20 years, solar is much cheaper. It's just a matter of coming up with a huge wad of cash at the beginning. But that should increase the resale value of your home.

We can make solar energy at home. And yes It is affordable though not too many people use it. Electricity can be produced by sun's energy through solar panels> Solar panels cost few hundred bucks. Its a one time investment as maintainence and other costs are low. This site can help you make your own solar energy at home. I know this because it helped me too:) http://www.earthforenergykits.com/

ITS AFFORDABLE NOW AND USED WORLDWIDE.

Affordable? Well, you can spend your surplus disposable income on anything you want. But if you want to spend 9-15 times what electricity from a farm of nuclear reactors would cost, and you consider that expenditure affordable, then yes.
