I can hit the right notes very well, but I hate the actual sound of my voice.

It's kind of a win/lose situation, which is unfortunate.

I don't sing proffessionally but I am a pianist, electronic musician and singer. On the few occasions I have tried to use my own voice on tracks I have found it impossible. I cannot deal with the way my voice sounds in terms of the way I pronounce words and I obsess about intunation to the point where anything I do have recorded sounds robotic.

I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but I love to sing! My poor daughter is forced to listen to it in the car as I sing along with the radio! Actually she likes my singing! weird huh?

    You have a few choices.

Try to get yourself a much better recording devices, so that what you really hear is your voice, not due to some lousy equipment.

Next, you have to get use to that voice, and strength other areas that you feel could be improve. Unless you are saying that all singing techniques are truly, mastered, theres still room to grow.

Oh,and don't compare your voice to that of a professional.

    No.

I think if that were true, it would be difficult to stand before others and sing.

When I was listening with my teacher, I found it somewhat intimidating because we both her the mistakes and times I was making "palate noise."
