There are many reasons for artists to draw realistically, which is the reason it is the foundation of nearly every arts program in the western world. Courses like life drawing provide a foundation in seeing, understanding, and visually communicating things about the world around us. They help develop an understanding of the interplay of light and form, for instance, and we learn how to represent this, contour, shade and shadow with line and shading. If you look at the work of any significant artist, even the most abstract, you will find a solid foundation in realistic representation. Picasso for instance, painted this realistic portrait of his mother in 1896, when he was 14.

The first answer was right on the money. What I want to know is why would you ask a question like that? I am confussed about your tone and how you asked the question. Do you not like artist who paint or draw realistically? do you perfer another style like impressionism?
