I recently played a used DVD. Halfway through the video, the screen became distorted. I cleaned the disc and lens, and the video was fine after that. Then, it became distorted in different scenes. Could the problem be the player or the disc?

You could isolate this yourself by testing other discs in the machine, if the problem re-occurs it is the DVD player, if not, it was the disc.
