What is the origin of the phrase "roll of the dice"?

    Also didnt Julius caesar say "iacta est alia" - the die is cast - meaning it has already been decided? It means to depend on luck/chance or fate if you are a fatalist! I think its one of these phrases as old as the game of dice itself
