I have not tried it but I've read about it: Simply add them to your address book, ask them to give you their wii numbers. They should also add your in their address book.

You have to first find out their Wii console number. They can find this out by going to the wii message board, then going to create a message on the message board, then go to adress book. Once you have their wii console number, go to the wii message board and go on create a message. Then click on adress book and press register. Then click on Wii. Then type in their wii console number. Then they will be your Wii friend.
