  • Many CEO's make campaign nominal contributions throughout the year, especially during presidental elections. Not unlike other CEO's, Bill Gates chooses to contribute to both parties, doubling his effort towards the party of his choice. According to the record, Bill Gates favors the Democratic party. * Data Updated on 02/24/2006 Political Campaign Contributions by Bill Gates (1999 to Present) - $59,100 ** Last donation was 10/17/2003 REPUBLICAN:21% DEMOCRAT:45% info from: http://www.campaignmoney.com/biography/bill_gates.asp
  • Bill Gates is a Republican: See http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2001933975_bushtechies20m.html • Microsoft founder Bill Gates was swayed four years ago when his company was under attack by the Justice Department of Democrat Bill Clinton. • "It became clear in the presidential election of 2000 that the company as well as the industry would be better off with a free marketplace, and that's what caused him (Gates) to come out strongly in favor of George W. Bush." • All Gates wanted to do was operate in a free-enterprise system, and "there's no party that supports the free-enterprise system like the Republican Party." • Gates has donated to Bush's re-election.
  • He donates a lot to the democrat party and affiliates, so would guess democrat.
  • It's not wise for him to choose any direction today. Perhaps we should bring back the whigs and the federalists.
  • Bill Gates considered himself a democrat though he was not very politically involved, at least until the Clinton administration went after Microsoft, then his way of thinking shifted and he considered it to back more free enterprise friendly republicans. Bill Gates has always been socially liberal, but since the attack on Microsoft by the Clinton Administration he seems to be leaning fiscally conservative. Bill has always supported varied candidates, though in the past has supported mostly democrats, until recently he started supporting more republicans and fiscally conservative causes. Bill's parents were republicans who were on the liberal side and supported many liberal causes and were pro choice.
  • It sounds like he is at least socially liberal. His economic status probably reflects part of his Republican leanings. It is, though, hard for me to believe that a man as bright as he would even consider the intellectually bankrupt George Bush. If he voted for him in 2000 I would place a bet that he did NOT vote for him in 2004. Who knows though. When one has an inordinate amount of wealth as Bill Gates has it does something unfortunate I think to some (although not all) people's psyches. I would never, no matter how rich I had the blessings to become, never never never support the Republican agenda. I would rather give my money all away than give it to the Republican party with its horrific foreign agenda, bombing people into oblivion, religious fundamentalist crazies and just plain nasty racist aura. Whatever the Democrats faults and there are admittedly a few, they are MILES more inclusive and humane then are Republicans. Capitalism does one thing well, it makes money. It does NOT alone make for very altruistic people. To me, since we are all going to leave this earth, I would rather be known for whom I help then how much I can bestow upon my progeny. I belief wealth is all of ours as is the earth we temporarily inhabit. I am glad to see Bill Gates will be devoting his time to making the world a little bit better. Let's hope he votes for Barak Obama this time.
  • He was a democrat til Clinton attacked him then he became a Liberal Republican.
