He tell Louis that his daughter wasn't ready for her cat to die. In the book, he tells Louis that afterwards he thought maybe it was because the place gets ahold of you. After Gage dies, he insinuates that the burial ground may have the power to control people who have been there (and the people and events surrounding them).

I got the impression that he was misguided, but had the best of intentions when he took Louis to the Pet Semetary. You see him obviously thinking hard about whether or not to do it, given that he knows, first hand, how bad life can become for those associated with the place. I think there was also a more subtle insinuation at play, that the Pet Semetary was controlling everything that happened, from the day the Creed's arrived. As lovely as Jud was, I personally believe that he was also a vessel and a way for the Pet Semetary to be introduced to Louis. Its power was always there, carefully and quietly controlling the events of the book to suit what it wanted. Very scary stuff.

Stephen King (and Jud) describe it as if it's almost an addiction. He knows he shouldn't go up there but the power of the burial ground draws him to it. Also, he knew bad things happen from that place, but I don't think he expects anyone to die...

He did it mostly because since he knew about the Sematery, it had exerted a sort of power over him and influenced him to perpetuate the evil of the place. He says something like "It becomes your place, you make up the sweetest-smelling reasons in the world to go back there." He rationalized it by telling himself that he owed Louis for saving Norma's life, and he would repay him by helping him bring Church back to life. It was kind of the whole point of the book, actually. Louis did the exact same thing with Gage, even though he knew it was a horrible idea. He rationalized it to himself six ways to Sunday, and ended up with a murdering monster. Then he did the same thing with his wife.

Yea he said that Ellie wasnt ready to see her first pet die but that would have been better than a psycho demonic kitty. Then Gauge and then his wife....poor,poor Louis!!
