I suspect most writers don't wait on a publisher. They write because they have to, they publish because they can. A person born to write isn't going to wait around for a publisher -- they are going to sit down and write knowing that it is possible their writing will never be seen by anyone else. Still they write.

yes. I would write about my personal experiences with abortion. I'd title it, kill dem fuckers.

YEP, in a heartbeat. I have several books I'd like to write. I gotta get off this site and go write em!! www.nanowrimo.org Remember, November is National Novel Writing Month

I would write it either way.

Writers write because they have the need to write. I know I am a writer because I have at least 150 notebooks filled with writing. Yeah, I could take anyone of them and turn it into a book

I did. I was contacted by a publisher called the History Press and asked to write a book about ghosts in Newport. I had just over 5 weeks until deadline to write the book which is called, "Ghosts of Newport." That book sold out of its 3,000 copy first printing and is now in its second printing. I have received royalties and speaking fees as a result of that project and I am now working on two more books. I'd always enjoyed writing. I've written articles for magazines and newspapers as well as for web sites such as www.AllPar.com and www.ToyoLand.com. I was never properly motivated to write a book until there was the promise of royalties and a deadline to motivate me. Of course, you can't wait to be approached if you're serious. I was approached because I work as a Ghost Tour Guide in Newport, RI- a matter of extreme luck. Most authors I know were self-motivated, determined individuals. Often, they are self-published. So far,I write for profit about subjects that fascinate me. It's really a different kind of writing than the author that writes because he has a story to tell. As an entertainer and storyteller, I tend to share my stories in oral form. Some day, I will put them down in a book and try to market them. In the meantime, if someone would make an offer and give me a deadline, perhaps they'll be published sooner...

I am quite wary at such an offer. Publishers could sometimes work around your book and manage to manipulate you at a point that you no longer have the chance to back out – because you already signed something with them. I’m currently writing a book and I want to work at my own pace and time. I do not want someone pressuring me and egging me to write something which I will be handing out to them for dissection. When I’m done with my writing, I want absolute control of the entire production from the book cover design to the marketing. Publishing the book myself is the best option I could perhaps think of and I owe it all to my efforts and hardwork to do this for my book. You can actually have more information on self-publishing here: http://www.xlibris.com/requestkit/index.asp?src=aop&key=qak

I certainly would. I also write and ask a publisher later if he is interested in publishing it. It can work both ways.
