  • I've been a cashier for many years. You cannot work the job efficiently seated.
  • I have been a Wal-mart cashier. They give you mats "so you're feet don't hurt." They're cruel and evil.. no, but I doubt they want to spend extra money for chairs. Also so many people who spend their lives in retail are lazy... you do get a chair if you're pregnant though in most places.
  • It is not sit-down job....
  • it's really not the cost of chairs etc... What it is, the third rule of Customer Service... Always be at eye level with your customers.
  • I am a Walmart cashier and as hard as it may be to believe, cost is no object. Walmart makes billions of dollars everyday around the world...you have got to be kidding me if you honestly think that they cannot make a once a year investment in some chairs!! Also, at the store where I am employed, which is in a smaller community, the lines are not non-stop all day everyday. We do eventually have moments where a few minutes, or even just seconds to take a seat would feel REALLY good. Every associate in the store gets to run their own schedule, save the front end associates and the door greeters(which for the most part, at least at my store are elderly folk and could highly benefit from some chairs). Thus, every associate who does not work at the front end has an opportunity to take a break, take a seat, take a lean, or take their lunch whenever they see fit! Even more confounding is the fact that some of them can even leave up to two or three hours early from a scheduled shift with little -- or in some cases no -- questions asked of management. All that I am saying is that chairs would be a useful and welcome "tool" for Walmart to invest in for its "standing sedentary" associates...it would save on aches and pains on our bodies and would allow us to be genuinely friendly more of the time instead of being fake in an attempt to hide our irritability as it stands.
  • Actually this is Policy. Unless you have a Drs Written statement you cannot sit . I think there should be chairs in areas so associates can sit when sore from standing. Especially the elder ones and there are alot of handi capped ones that have to stand regardless. I just do not understand...
