  • dpends if they can relate to ur question like that other one u did that was stupid for rating u down for it
  • I like shorter answers better.
  • Are you kidding? I love it when I see a long answer to one of my Q's. Long answers ussualy indicate a well thought out and often intelligent answer. How could I pass that up?!
  • I read every word answered to my questions. I love feedback is the only way I learn and sometimes the long answers are the best.
  • No I read all answers to my question.
  • Run on sentances, no paragraph breaks, just one jumbled body of text... I will skip it. Who can make heads and tails of a mess like that? However: I love well educated, well written, and fully explanitory answers. I also really enjoy stories by users that relate to the question at hand. I'd rather have everything summed up in a long answer than be asking myself 'what about this?' 'what about that'... the precipice you sometimes are left standing on by a short answer. I don't want a novel... but a short essay is great.... Short answers can be great in cases where a lot of information doesn't need to be conveyed.... and sometimes a lot of unecessary information is injected to expand an answer that explains nothing. However, if the information is good (or the story good as well as relevant) and explains the answer to my quandry in great enough detail as to preclude complete confusion or misinterpretation; I find it well worth my time to read.
  • I think the key word is "run on" do you mean one paragraph that has no returns to break it up in to more then just one? I personally enjoy long answers to my questions and some others. There is an exception when someone just goes and copy's and pasts from a site and thats their answer. I rather they just give me a link to the site instead of posting the text on here. - So to answer the question, I don't skip over them to my questions or if the question I am reading is interesting and I want to know more. Otherwise Yes I do aim for the shorter version answers.
  • Yes I am. If it is an answer to my question I will do my best to read it all, but sometimes the body of text goes on without a break for about 200 lines and that is just too much! If it is an answer to someone else's question then I would just skip over it. But as said before, I love it when there is a long well structured answer to one of my questions :)
  • I hate it when I see a really long answer that has obviously been copied and pasted from somewhere else and then at the end is a link to the exact text of the answer. I would far rather see a précis of the text and a link for additional information.
  • It depends on the topic. I too read all answers to questions I have asked. If it is a topic that doesn't interest me, I'll skip it. I generally don't enjoy obviously copied, long answers with dense text.
  • I am guilty of skipping those long answers myself. It also depends on the subject matter, for I may read it. I basically prefer short and to the point answers.
  • That would depend on the subject and the answerer. Well thought out answers that explain a person's position on a subject is appreciated. Sometimes long answers are required to fully convey one's opinions. But when it all runs together and you have to add your own punctuation and such..I will skip it after a few sentences.
  • The short answer:yes. Unless it is well written and a subject that I am really interesting in. Personal rants don't maintain my interest long.
  • I don't mind paragraphs if they are broken up and there are not 20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 of them. And if they are, they better not be copied and pasted because I don't care as much then. A run on paragraph to me doesn't even have to be big, just a chunk of stuff that could have at least been split into two smaller ones. My mind doesn't read through it otherwise. If they answer my question I try not to skip through but may scan it more then actually reading it.
  • count me in.
  • I don't mind the long ones as much as the extremely long wickepedia or whatever postings.
  • I actually prefer longer answers, provided there is at least some semblance of sentence and paragraph structure. All the good information in the world doesn't help if I cannot read it for lack of proper grammar and spelling.
  • me too
  • I don't really mind them.
  • It depends upon the content. A short answer can be very stupid and a long answer can be very informative..thus,in prejudging without reading the answer you may miss out on something really valuable. :)
  • I know I have been guilty of doing that on many occasions. It is something I am trying to work on to improve. Many times I do say way more than is necessary when a one or two sentence answer would have been sufficient to answer the question.
  • I just skim through the long answers but don't read it in it's entirety .
  • Some questions are too complicated for a simple website like this, not all questions can be in the form of a few sentences. But it's true, some people do tend to "ramble" on.
  • Sometimes succintness is better, not always Some subjects do deserve a long, detailed answer. What I don't like are long, rambling "So what's your point?" answers.
  • I prefer short to medium length answers.
  • I don't hate them but would rather have a short to the point answer.
  • I think people can be concise but still need many words to give a good answer. Why would someone be penalized just because they are trying to answer your questions as accurately and fully as possible? Sure there are questions that can be short and funny but that isn't what every question needs to be complete or come from the person's heart.
  • Read as long as it is interesting. I am giving all these long answers.
