I don't think you can actually "see" a supernova. You may be able to see the results of a supernova, such as the remains of exploded stars.

It happens frequently in the night sky but,all are not visible to naked human eye or even hubble telescope. Say for instance if a supernova takes place to the nearest star proxima centaury it would take light from it 4 whole years to travel ours eyes.

it is incredibly rare, but i would keep watch on Betelguese or Eta carinae, i think they will go soon
