Dracula (1992 version), with Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves and Antony Hopkins. It is a beautifully tragic film, not just a must-see but a must-own!

interview with a vampire!
-
oh yeah very gory can't explain you will have to see it!

The Hammer Horror Dracula's are all worth watching (some are better than others). And your gothic credentials would not be complete without a copy of the 1931 Dracula starring Bela Lugosi! I also highly recommend "Nosferatu" - don't be put off because it's a silent film, some stories are beyond language, its a truly gorgeous film and incredibly haunting. After you've watched that try "Shadow of a Vampire" if you can get hold of it- starring John Malkovich and Eddie Izzard- it's not a horror exactly, but it speculates on some of the mysteries surrounding the making of Nosferatu. Its quite funny in a dark sort of way. Also try Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula- a lot of people don't like it, but I think it's actually one of the better modern adaptations- Gary Oldman is really well cast, although you have to get over Keanu Reeves' dodgy accent! I'll probably think of a few more, but these are a good start.

John Carpenter's Vampires

I really liked the entire Blade trilogy,Interview With A Vampire, and Queen of the Damned.
-
The 3 Blade films as already mentioned. The other way that I really like but it is not to everyones liking is "From Dusk Till Dawn". You watch it for an hour - and all of a sudden the movie goes in a completely different direction. Normally I dont mention that the vampires appear only after the first hour with no build up to them. It took me completely by surprise (I cant think of any other film quite that surprising) It is violent, a lot of swearing... so not for the kids or your grand mother.

do have "the hunger" with david bowie, ann magnusson, susan sarandon and cathrine denevre. i ordered it just recently off ebay. it's the greatest vampire movie ever. if you're a vampire movie buff like me, you must see it.

-
queen of the dammed and devils advocate were good.lost boys was great 2.
-
The Lost Boys. The movie with a vampire claiming to be Dracula's daughter, she is in a bar in American talking or reading. I think she dies at the end, can someone please help me find the movie's title. The movies title I think is the vampire's name.
-
I agree with most of the others : 1). Lost Boys 2). The Underworld movies (both) 3). The Blade movies (all 3) 4). John Carpenter's Vampire movies (both) I really didn't like the "Buffy" movie, but I loved the t.v. show. And, some obscure vampire movies : 5). Salem's Lot (the original) 6). The Dark Shadows movies (both)

From Dusk to Dawn with George Clooney, Quentin Tarrantino and the ever wonderful Salma Hyack
-
My two favorites are: Dracula (1931) Dracula (1992) aka "Bram Stoker's Dracula"
-
Van Helsing
-
30 Days of Night just came out this weekend in theaters. I would buy it. Go see it. It's horror/gore and messes with human emotion.
-
queen of the damned
-
"The Hunger", starring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. "Near Dark", starring Adrian Pasdar and Lance Henricksen.
-
You have to have NEAR DARK, I love that film it's really good. The Lost boys also. Blade i guess. Nosforatu. Any and all of the versions of Dracula (especially the Hammer one, with Christopher Lee) Bram Stoker's Dracula. Erm... If I think of any more I'll get back to you.
-
Lost Boys for sure...

If you want to see some more ''classic'' vampire films, I would suggest Nosferatu, both the original 1922 silent version and the 1979 colour version. Both are great pieces of art, and maybe they're not all that scary, but they're definitely worth it. Also, Bram Stoker's Dracula Love never Dies is excellent, offering a modern twist on an old classic, and it succeeds quite well, especially for setting an atmosphere worthy of the novel, complete with style. Maybe Dracula isn't as badass as the modern vampires, but much of the vampire in entertainment owes his roots to the ol' King of Darkness, and any vampire fan owes it to themselves to take a look at these.

Queen of the damned is from the same series as Interview with a Vampire. Maybe you'd like that.
-
My thoughts: 30 Days of Night! Awesome! Salems Lot - Still can't watch it alone! Lost Boys - Classic 80's movie w/ happy ending Fright Night - see above - pretty funny as well Underworld movies - neat twist to plot -
-
30 days of night is pretty under rated, these vamps have to be the meanest and ugliest vampires I have seen and that includes from dusk till dawn lost boys near dark, blade etc this is the one vampire movie that I believe got vampires right. Oh yeah Let the right one in is really good but its not really scary its kinda sweet and disturbing.
-
You MUST have Interview With The Vampire and Queen Of The Damned if you're going for vampire movies. Dracula is also great, Van Helsing, all the Underworlds etc.

The essential Vampire movies collection would not be complete without... 1. "Dracula" (1931) - Be sure and pick up the Universal Legacy Collection Set, as it includes the Spanish version which was shot on the same sets at the same time as the English version and is considered by many people to be a better movie. 2. "Near Dark" (1987) - Gotta love this one. Enough said. 3. "The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck" (1967) - Good movie and very well directed but better known as the only film that Roman Polanski ever starred in alongside his tragically murdered wife. 4. "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1999) - Just some good clean fun... okay... maybe not so clean, but fun for sure. 5. "The Lost Boys" (1987) - Quite a bit dated but still enjoyable enough in it's own right. Keifer rules as the leader of the vamps and you gotta love that opening song. 6. "Fright Night" (1985) - The best of the "my next-door neighbour is a vampire" sub-genre. With a dash of humour and the Master... Roddy McDowall. 7. "30 Days of Night" (2007) - Not as good a movie as the rest in the list but beautifully shot by Cinematographer Jo Willems. If you're not going to pick this up on Hi-Def... don't bother. 8. "The Hunger" (1983) - Tony Scott's breakout film as a director. Some argue that it has more style than substance, but I say it's all about the style in this flic. 9. "Nosferatu" (1927) - Some of the creepiest vampire footage ever shot. Try to pick up the "NOSFERATU: Ultimate Edition" remastered version from Kino, as the film is in the public domain and there are many really bad DVD copies out there. 10. "Dracula" (1958) - Released in the US (and on DVD) as "Horror of Dracula". It's the first and argueably the best of the Christopher Lee Dracula movies. With Peter Cushing chewing up the scenery as Van Helsing you can't go wrong. and last but certainly not least... 11. "Vampiros lesbos" (1971) - as he has done many times since, Jesus Franco (sometimes credited as Jess Franco) dips into the Vampire well in this stylish and masterful spanish flic. A classic in every sense of the word. So there you go... Hope these help.
