  • What martial arts problem?
  • Maybe I sent the wrong impression. I'm a big fan of martial arts. I'm writing about mcdojos and the dangerous effect they have on the martial arts community
  • I hate to put down your hopes here, but there's not going to be any statistics like that. The survey needed to take it would have to be huge, and honestly who would admit to being a mcdojo, when a report would plaster it everywhere. I do however believe there are more mcdojos then real dojos, probably by quite an amount but you're more likely to find them in certain tma schools rather then others like karate and TKD compared to BJJ or Muy Thai. Also, as far as the real fight factor goes that has more to do with your ability and fighting intelligence.
  • the way you've phrased the question is not going to get a lot of positive feedback... a lot of people in this category are true martial artists and would misinterpret what you are going for here. yes, mcdojos or black belt factories are a problem, but the only way to define a dojo as such is to take a few lessons and speak with the instructor or students, because the way a martial art is taught varies greatly from style to style, and what is considered a shortcut in one style is not in another. as for getting hurt in real fights... another tough one to answer. i'd say injuries are more common in tournament fights or training, mostly because martial artists tend to avoid street fights if possible. i don't think the statistics you are looking for exist, i have done a little searching but haven't found anything. good luck on your paper, and please remember to distinguish between black belt factories and real dojos in your paper.
  • Your questions are hard to answer. There is no clear definition regarding what is a McDojo, and what qualifies someone to be a "Martial Artist?" Good luck!
