  • The religion of Ancient Babylon was polytheistic. They worshipped Ishtar (Queen of Heaven, Great Goddess), Marduk (called Baal in the Bible), etc. Some did confess to the gods. As Babylon had a formal priesthood (priests and priestesses, btw), and confession by believers is a powerful means of gathering intelligence for political purposes, I wouldn't be surprised if this were true. However, I haven't yet found any definitive references to a practice similar to that found in Catholicism. http://history-world.org/babylonia.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishtar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marduk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesopotamia#Religion
  • Yes. Their religious beliefs were later copied by the Greeks, Romans, and eventually the Catholic Church.
