If it is toast that we are talking about, the toaster, I like both sides of my bread toasted, not just the top. I do like my toaster oven for other things.

Definitely toaster oven. It's more versatile and can perform more tasks than the common toaster. It can bake, broil, toast and maintain a certain amount of heat in the food. A toaster has only one task: toasting. When it comes to something in the home which can perform only one task or job, I'm in the same tent with Alton Brown of "Good Eats": the fire extinguisher.
