This song has possible hundreds of meanings, however without hearing the Kings of Leon tell us exactly what they mean by this, here is my take on the song. "Sex on fire" Or in other words, "Gender under attack" Sex meaning GENDER would connote ...seeing as the group is ALL males siblings and cousins...that they are referencing how the male gender is under attack, has it's personal demons and, is stifled in a politically correct, over paranoid, female cautious, society. Where men are not allowed to be men, but being told to get in touch with their "feminine" side. Telling men and women their the same (not to be confused with EQUAL)makes IDENTITY CRISIS and in the case of HUMAN MALES, there is a need for certain things expressed, experienced and examined, that are totally different from HUMAN FEMALES. In my opinion this songs is about the struggles of males in modern societies, fighting their inner demons, fighting to find out who they are while being told to not be what they are.

Coming from a singer/songwriter background I feel that people are looking too hard for a meaning. The 1st mental image I get from this is a drug addict with aids. Some people have already referenced to what lyrics could be interpreted to mean something like that. The 2nd image was of someone having an unhealthy craving for someone. "Sex" would be referring to a persons sexuality and sexual feelings. When "your sex is on fire" it would mean that you are being consumed with those feelings. The line "consumed with what's to transpire" would probably mean something in the lines of "consumed with what is going to happen", in which case it would really emphasize it. Then again, something tells me that the lyrics were written as a train of thought with very little thinking about the meaning of it all. It's more than likely a song about the feeling of having "your sex on fire".

These motherfukers before me are all wrong, "Sex on fire" is no where near drugs or even about aids or stds. It is mainly about a couples sexlife and man is it powerful. The band "Kings of leon", are very influential in there music and mostly if you are a fan you know that their songs are mostly about Sexuality and love. The lyrics might cost some confusion but there interpreted by the singers point of view.For example, "Lay where your laying, dont make a sound" can be a sort of role play among the partners. On the part of the chourus he sings, "You, your sex is on fire, consumed with whats to transpire." Can mean that of his pleasure within intercourse. So if you think that this song is about aids, stds, and other senseless bullshit its not, believe me Kings of leon would never let that kind of image out. Like I stated its mainly and truely about a positive and sexually active relationship.

Everyone has it wrong lol....The singer Caleb Followill from the Kings of Leon said he wrote this song about someone he had a fantasy about sleeping with, although he did not tell this certain individual his feelings, but he did decide to write a song about it....The song displays how he feels sex with this certain someone would be like..He believes that having sex with this person would be amazing, hence the the lyrics "sex is on fire"...He did not give the name of who he was fantasing about.
