The easiest answer is that in order to become a Wiccan, you begin to self-identify as Wiccan. The same is true of any religion. Wicca is a path to spiritual growth and enlightenment. We seek truth inside of a framework. You begin to learn about Wicca, about history, about ethics, about magic, and about the Mysteries. I believe you become Wiccan once you dedicate yourself as a solitary or dedicate yourself to a coven. My path to Wicca was not a one day thing. It is not the same as saying you converted to Christianity or were "saved". I just started studying the history of Christianity, the Bible, and the origins of the teachings. What I found shocked me. I finally realized that my beliefs had changed so much that I could not continue to call myself a Christian. At that point, I didn't self-identify as any religion. I slowly started saying I was Pagan (with an upper-case P, it refers to Neopaganism). After studying and assessing what I believe, I chose to dedicate myself to Wicca. At this point, I began self-identifying as Wiccan. I hope this answer helps.

If you are wiccan you will know, most people will start off on this but branch off at a later time when you realise your rightful path. To be a wiccan you need to be initiated into a coven. But you can call yourself what ever you want to if its in your heart theres no hard and fast rule.

I'm not a Wiccan, but from what I understand of the religion, one has to be initiated into a legitimate coven to truly be able to identify oneself as such.

Simple... You research by reading several books & checking the internet....

In all actuality to call one's self Wiccan does not make a Wiccan, neither does belonging in a Coven make a memeber a Wiccan. Just as a "unsaved" person can claim to be a Christian and even have been baptized etc. does not determine whether or not they are Christain. A real Christian would adhere to the tenets of the faith in practice, as would a real Wiccan. I can self-identify with any label, but unless I am actually practicing the creed I am not what I call myself. In other words the answer self-identify is misleading. In that case I am a doctor by identifying with doctors. No. You are a doctor by going to school, getting a doctorite and actually practicing medicine. In this way you are a Wiccan if you seek to follow the Divine in All things, including yourself, observe the eight festivals, and follow the Wiccan reed to the best of your ability. You are not a Wiccan, simply by reading about it, or having an interest in it, or even by initiation. Wicca is a faith, and many coven-practices would term you non-Wiccan if you do not join whatever "coven-of-the decade" flavor of the week it is right now. Just as a Christain is indeed truthfully a Christain when he or she practices the obedience of Christ, within or without the context of the church, so too is one a Wiccan when they follow the tenets of "an it harm none, do what ye will..." and "ever mind the rule of three what ye send out comes back to thee." One need not be in a coven to be a Wiccan, anymore than one need to go to church to be a Christain. Instead, the truth of the matter is how you live your life, when you observe the religious theories to its fullest credence.

you would have to find the gods and goddesses that you want then you find a coven, or yourself if you want to be a solitare wiccan, and allow those gods and goddesses to accept you. the initiation proccess for the gods and goddesses vary from coven to coven and it varies depending on which. god or goddess you choose.

wow, there seems to be alot of confusion about this. firstly you need to find out the reasons why you want to be in that partiicular religion and learn as much as you can, and follow the ways, its very simple, you DEFINATLY do not need a coven
-

Find a reputable book in a metaphysical bookstore and read up on it... Also look it up on wickipedia and other sites to see exactly what it is and check resources and links to see if you can actually contact someone that is into it that can direct you to someone in your area. All religions are organized centrally. You can probably find a "center" if you look?
