Most lawyers who handle SSI cases don't charge a fee unless they win your case, obviously you are not looking hard enough for a good attorney, or you just don't want to higher one altogether. The fact of the matter is cases that have attorneys have a better chance at recieving benefits, I know it sux, but thats the way it is, for a nationally recognized attorney that specializes in such cases I recommend Binder and Binder, they only specialize in SSI cases. http://www.binderandbinder.com/

I have a friend that is on SSI and their application was denied 3 times. No attorney was hired either. In some cases it takes a few times of applying before Social Security will grant you SSI. Sometimes an attorney is needed and sometimes it isn't - it really depends on the case and how much documentation you have to support it. Keep trying and good luck!

Try contacting your local legal aid office. They may be able to put you in touch with the right kind of lawyer.
