As someone who may qualify (chronologically-speaking) in many people's eyes as being "old", I try to abate the stench of decomposition with Brut, Musk, Right Guard, and other such scents. Please do not confuse these scents with sense, with which the youthful asker may be utterly unfamiliar. ;-)

From what I understand, this is caused by an acidic pH. Over time the body's pH turns from neutral to acidic, which causes a particular odor. I thought there was a connection to ammonia as well. If anyone wants to elaborate on my answer, feel free because I'm not exactly sure my answer is totally accurate.
