  • Privacy reasons, most likely. You'll notice those who comment on answers are clearly visible though.
  • It's just the way the system was set up. I don't know if it would be possible..but that would eliminate the anonymity of those who give DR's. Of course, we can always go to a member's profile and find out what the positive rating percent is. It would be great to have everyone who participates be identified. :) Happy Wednesday! :)
  • The original aim of the site was to create a database of useful answers and the points were introduced so that the most useful answers rose to the top. There are two main reasons why the points are anonymous. Some people would automatically award "thank you" points to those who up-rate them and this could lead to less helpful answers being rated more highly than the best answers. Tit-for-tat negative ratings would also skew the results. Another reason is that it prevents down-rate wars, where one person receives a down-rate, so he finds one of the down-raters contributions and down-rates it, solely as revenge, only to find that the original down-rater then does the same thing - and on it goes ad-infinitum. All in all I think anonymous ratings are best.
  • The identity not shown would be better of for all especially when down ratings are given. It will neutralize situation of retaliations, endless argumentations and disorderly remarks.AB is not created to be a battle ground but an avenue to express oneself with the most compassion to help contribute where possible in solving problems posted in AB. I have been down rated on several occasions but I took these as not all would agree with my views and intelligence.
