Because he wanted us to have a choice between right and wrong. Because he loves us is why he gives us the option. This is however very difficult to answer, since as you well know, I am not God. This is my best interpretation though.

We would pre-programmed, just like animals. If he made the angels without free will that un-named angel who we know as Satan wouldn't have gotten all uppity. The Garden of Eden test didn't deprive Adam and Eve of anything, it was merely to show if they respected boundaries and were obedient. Eve wanted to be like God and Adam went along with this wife of his. Two free willed individuals making bad choices. I wonder how I would have fared back then...

Well UI belive it's because he actually wants us to be free and wants us to make our own decisions.....So we can all learn form them...this is what I think

God didn't want robots. He wanted mankind to be able to choose to love and obey him rather than be forced to do so.

Free will IS the gift......

Because God is logical. You can't have red with the quality of greenness, either. We should really be thankful that God has indeed chosen good over evil. There's NO real reason why He isn't evil. We are just plain LUCKY.

If God made us so that we would not choose sin, then there would be no choice no freedom. We would have to choose only good. In my religion, we believe that this life is both a school and testing ground for what will come in the next life. Without the ability to choose evil, we could not prepare ourselves for that which is to come. The Savior spoke of this when He gave the parable of the talents: 14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:14-30 Note that those servants that behaved wisely and made a profit from that which the Lord gave them were made rulers, they were give responsibilities AFTER the reckoning. So, it will be for us in the next life if we have proven worthy. However, the Lord needs to know if we can handle the responsibility that he wants to give us. So, we must face the choice between good and evil here in mortality in order to learn to choose the good over the evil. Thus we gain the knowledge and understanding needed to prepare us for the greater responsibility that can be our if we choose good over evil. However, we can't learn this lesson if we don't have a choice. Thus we must also have the option to choose evil. I know that there are many who will probably disagree with my interpretation of this parable. That is alright. We are all entitled to believe as we wish. However, I think that this perspective on things makes the whole reason for God allowing evil to exist and His giving us the ability to choose evil a lot more understandable.
