Anything but leather soles. Make sure you have thick soft soles. I like rubber. Consider inserts. In fact, go to an orthodist (really a shoe salesman with training in the design of shoes for therapeutic purposes). They will measure your foot like it has never been measured before and design an insert or special shoe for you. This will help your foot and back. Wear appropriate back support. Do some stretching throughout the day. When you go home, rest flat on your back, feet on the floor, and knees in the air. Do gentle turns. Do some stretching exercises before you begin work just as you would before an exercise session. Try to avoid unnecessary tension in your back. Consider preventive chiropractic care and massage therapy. When you can, bend your knees and flex your spine during the work day. This is a very hard place to maintain spinal health, but do these things and others that are suggested and you will be far ahead of others. Also, be careful and avoid unnecessary injuries that come through carelessness, doing alone what you should do with someone else, or overdoing it.
