Read The Lord Of The Rings and The Silmarilion. Apart from saying that the Eagles ARE very important, I'm not telling u anything else just yet, as I don't want to ruin the book for u. (No, seeing the movie is NOT enough and probably counter-productive. The whole point of Fantasy (or Faerie) stories is, according to JRR Tolkein himself, to stimulate the imagination. Seeing the story enacted, on stage or screen, takes the imagination out of it and thus renders the story pointless.) So go read them! If u don't have them, are too impecunious to buy them, and none of ur friends will lend them to u, then join ur local public library. All halfway decent libraries have many copies of both.
