  • You should start out by licensing your song(s) through B.M.I. or A.S.C.A.P. Either one has a legal staff who are well versed on any legal questions you will have including copyright questions and protocol, etc. swabby
  • As far as copyright, don't waste money on a lawyer for something so easy. Go to copyright.gov to get the proper documents and just copyright it yourself for a small fee. As for selling it, the best place I've come across is http://www.TarniusMusic.com. They give back 90% of all sales, which is much higher than the other places I've used, so you can keep prices low and keep fans interested. I highly recommend them, they've been the best for me by far.
  • First off, the other answers posted so far are good advice. However, you do not need to register a copyright in order to get copyright protection. As soon as you afix your work in a tangible medium (i.e. write it down or record it), you are protected. There are advantages to registering your copyright. Namely, you get more choicces in damages and it makes it easier to prove that another work is infringing. As for selling your work, I would use every resource you can find. I know itunes now allows private sellers, and there are other online sites that do so as well.
